15.9.9:30 BRATISLAVA - Slovak hockey achieved its historic result at the recent NHL draft, when Juraj Slafkovský (18) was selected first by the Montreal Canadiens, followed immediately by defenseman Šimon Nemec (18), who was reached by the New Jersey Devils.Great credit for this success goes to national team coach Craig Ramsay (71), who revealed his feelings after the draft.The coach of our national team decided to give a chance to talented youngsters who did not disappoint him and the performances of Slafkovský and the German caught the attention of the hockey public all over the world.Thanks to him, Slovakia has the first draft unit, and Ramsay has no doubts that Slafkovský will start the season in Montreal's first team."I personally see him in the NHL.He is big, strong and skates well.In addition, Montreal is rebuilding, so I think the club will be patient with him," Ramsay revealed his opinion in an interview with journaldemontreal.com.The coach of the Slovak national team is convinced that Šimon Nemec will also get a chance in the first team in the new season.However, the paradox is that Ramsay practically forgot about the NHL draft itself, and if it weren't for his son, he would have missed the historic moment for Slovak hockey.“During the draft I was home in Florida and for some reason I got the dates wrong.The first round is usually on Friday, but now it was on Thursday, and I only came to my senses when my son sent me a message that Slavy was a draft pick," said the experienced coach.Ramsay turned on the TV when New Jersey reached for Šimon Nemec, and he had to vent from the excitement after the first round, in which Montreal selected Filip Mešár from 26th place."I told my wife that I had to go for a walk, and tears welled up in my eyes from happiness.It's great not only for me, but especially for the guys and people in Slovakia," added Craig for the Canadian portal.© 2022 News and Media Holding, a.s.
